This function will create a complete new path (again just in Memory) where GPSLogger creates
average values of the last 5 records in the path (lat, lon, alt, time and # of stats).
Please note: If you have 'Path smoothening' enabled in the options, GPSLogger will use the
configured number of previous GPS-fixes in order to calculate the average value
Please note that you can apply this function multiple times after each other - you will also
notice that the turns will have a smaller radius (specially when you apply it multiple times)
[SHIFT]+[B] - Backup Path
This will save the path currently in memory to the file system (of course with a different name).
So you can use later the modified path (no matter if erased location fixes or flattened)

New Coordinate Systems
What's Changed
2013/04/10 - Release of GPSLogger II v3.0.0.4 (OS4.6+ only)
Reworked GUI Components
What's Changed
GPSLogger and GPSLogger II have been developed over the past 4 years - thats quite
a long time for an app! It's really amazing how time goes by...
While the app functionality have been constantly improved over time there are some areas
that have been totally untouched since the initial release.
One of these areas are the option screens. Of course with each release new options have
been added - but they have been never reorganized. With the new release of GPSLogger II v3.0
all option screens have been redesigned and got now a fresh new look.
In addition to the new option screen design all input dialogs have been reviewed and most
of them got redesigned. For example when you mark a location in your current path:
In the past the input was requested in a separate screen - in the new build this is just a
popup screen.
In the previous build the logging file format was changed - with this change it was
unfortunately not possible any longer to mark locations - or better it was possible to mark
them - but they never had been saved. In the new build this issue have been fixed.
By press and hold [ESC] you can close/cancel the directory browsing screens (no need
to go up to the system root anylonger)
Finally you might wonder how it could be that so many changes have been implemented
in such a short period of time (since the last v2.7 release was just a couple of days ago).
I don't really have a good answer - it was just that I had a lot of fun coding for the legacy
BlackBerry platform and I felt the need that GPSLogger II should look a bit better.
2013/03/29 - Release of GPSLogger II v2.7.1.8 (OS4.6+ only)
New file format & more...
What's Changed
The new build of GPSLogger II have changed it's internal file format that
now allows to write the path while logging. With other words the path will be constantly
saved and no data loss can occur (e.g. by a crashing device or running out of battery).
Every location fix that will be provided by the GPS-Antenna will be instantly recorded.
If you have the need for the previous file format you have an additional option to
store the old format once the recording is ended. This additional option can be enabled
in the general options of GPS-Logger II.
The new version allows you to save the original GPS-NMEA-DATA in a separate file
(once the recording is completed). The NMEA-Data can be used with other applications or web
services. Yes this feature is quite technical - but those of you who can interpret the data
might find them quite useful (at least I personally had the requirement to have access to
the core NMEA-Data).
In the new build it's again possible to start the logging even if no GPS-Signal
is currently present. With this you can launch GPS-Logger and instantly start the
recording process without the need of waiting for the first GPS-fix.
2012/12/10 - Release of GPSLogger II v2.7.0.9 (OS4.6+ only)
GPS-Status display and some tweaks
What's Changed
The GPSLogger status bar will display some additional GPS-LocationProvider
status information.
If GPSLogger does not display any additional information at the beginning of the
status bar, everything is fine. But as soon as GPSLogger does not get a frequent update
(if 'brute force recovery' is enabled) or if the device itself is notifying GPSLogger
concerning a LocationProvider status change, then you can see [GPS "OUT OF SERVICE"]
or [GPS "TEMP NO SERVICE"] as first entry of the status bar.
The new introduced 'Time' field in the status bar can additionally contain
the seconds ('T:hh:mm:ss').
As all status field information this info can be turned on/off via
the 'Appearance & Startup' settings in the GPSLogger options.
The status bar on top of GPSLogger can contain an additional 'Location Counter'
- This field would let you know the number of locations that have been recorded so far.
Normally this number should be constantly increasing while you are logging.
As all status field information this info can be turned on/off via
the 'Appearance & Startup' settings in the GPSLogger options. By default the
display of this counter is OFF.
2012/11/19 - Release of GPSLogger II v2.7.0.5 (OS4.6+ only)
Enlarged screen components & better "lost" GPS-Signal recovery
What's Changed
With the the increased screen resolution of the latest BlackBerry
devices (like the Bold 99xx or the Torch9810) the size of the current
location indicator, the logged path and the position markers have
become quite tiny.
The new build includes an additional checkbox in the 'Appearance &
Startup' section which allows you to enlarge the rendering of this parts on
the GPSLogger screen.
The status bar on top of GPSLogger will contain an additional 'Time'
field ('T:xx:xx').
This will be the actual time of the recorded location fix. The time
format (and time zone) depends from your default device settings.
As all status field information this info can be turned on/off via
the 'Appearance & Startup' settings in the GPSLogger options.
Over the past couple of month I have received reports that for what ever
reasons on never BlackBerry devices there seams to be an issue with picking up
the GPS-Signal after the signal was not present (e.g. cause of a Tunnel or being
inside a building).
Even if from my point of view it should be the task of the core OS to provide
a constant GPS signal flow (including resuming after an 'OUT OF SERVICE' or a
'TEMPORARILY UNAVAILABLE' period), GPSLogger came already with a "Use 'brute
force' LocationProvider recovery" option. This code have been restructured &
reorganized in the hope that the updated implementation will also work on newer
Devices & OS Versions.
2012/09/14 - Release of GPSLogger II v2.6.0.8 (OS4.6+ only)
OS7.x Devices: Magnetic compass support
What's Changed
- Support for the Magnetometer Sensor that was introduced with some of the new OS7.x models
(like the Bold and Torch). This Sensor is providing the heading information based on the
magnetic north. The sensor is way more accurate compared to the GPS-Signal and is is updating
very fast. This makes all direction based functionalities of GPSLogger II (like the "CarFinder",
the "GeoCacheing feature" or the "OutDoorNavigation") way more accurate.
Please note that is important to calibrate the compass (accessible via the Menu) to get
valid results. Specially when you have a device with a slider (Torch) and have started the app
with closed slider and would like to use the app with your keyboard open state - in this
case a re-calibration after you have opened the slider is highly recommended.
And like the nature on an real compass you will get the best results when you hold your
device (display up) flat in the hand (overhead use is not supported).
- Correction for the display of the alternative Longitude & Latitude information that was
introduced in the last build.
2012/08/27 - Release of GPSLogger II v2.5.0.7 (OS4.6+ only)
eMail Account configuration
What's Changed
- If your have configured multiple eMail accounts on your device then in this new build you
can select which account GPSLogger II should use when the application is going to send eMails
[e.g. notifications or alerts]. The selection of the eMail account that GPSLogger II is going
to use can be made in the general options section.
- Some maps (e.g. nautical) make use of a slightly different format - instead of 60 seconds
these maps use 100. In the Appearance & Startup Section you can select if you want to use
this different kind of display for the location information (Longitude & Latitude). You
find the checkbox at the bottom of the section (StatusBar Customization)

Holster Fix
What's Changed
- With the last update (v2.5.0.2) there was an issue when you had running GPSLogger II in the foreground and have put the device in the holster.
When you taken the device out of the holster again GPSLogger II did not updated the screen anymore. Without going too deep into the details (since
the root of the issue is once again in the core OS) this issue has been fixed in v2.5.0.3
2012/02/15 - Release of GPSLogger II v2.5.0.2 (OS4.6+ only)
Battery lifetime & general responsiveness
What's Changed
- Battery lifetime enhancements - the new version of GPSLogger should (hopefully) treat the Device
battery a bit better. Please note that requesting constantly a GPS fix is quite a heavy task for
your device but in the new version various changes have been implemented in order to extend the
battery life of your Device as long as possible - specially when you allow the Device to turn the
Backlight OFF or send GPSLogger II into the background.
- The opening the PathManager or LocationManager is now happening asynchronous - this would allow
you to cancel the reading of all your Paths/Locations and should make this actions way more
responsive.
- The BlackBerryMaps View can be completely disabled (or only be disabled while on Roaming). When
you are using GPSLogger II either in a country that does not support BBMaps (yet) or you like to
avoid any kind of data traffic you can completely disable the Map View in the 'Appearance &
Startup' options.
2012/01/17 (& 15) - Release of GPSLogger II v2.4.0.5 (OS4.6+ only)
Expiration Fix
Since GPSLogger II is still a β build, its containing a fixed expiration date - this is
just to ensure that only the last recent builds are used. Normally with each update of the app the
expire date will be pushed way forward into the future. This is something I have forgot completely
in the past updates that have been released.
So that's why all GPSLogger II users have run into this problem at the 15.01.2012 - I am very sorry
for this inconvenience and I instantly took all required actions in order to solve this issue asap.
First of all a temporary v2.4.0.4 build was released in order to allow all GPSLogger II users to
continue to use the application. This temp version was released on Sunday Morning - at the same
time I have submitted a new BBM-Integrated Version to AppWorld™. The guys at RIM did a great
job and they approved the new build ultra fast - Thanks a lot Folks!
So since the Morning of the 17'th January 2012 (GMT) the new GPSLogger v2.4.0.5 is available in
AppWorld™ [You might need to reset AppWorld™ in order to get the latest GPSLogger II
version delivered.
See our FAQ's for details.]
What's Changed
- Of course the Expire Fix
- The 'Request RemoteLocation' Options dialog will display the Contact Name beside the
PIN Number in the 'Restricted PIN List'. Please Note that the name will be only read when
you add a new PIN to the List.

Request Remote Location/GPL & GPP as ContentHandler
What's new?
- Request Remote Location (and use it as navigation point)
With this new functionality you can request the GPS-Location of any other BlackBerry Device that have also installed GPSLogger II. Of course you can't request the location from anybody - there have been added plenty of options and settings to allow you to restrict access to this new functionality. All this can be done via the new 'Remote Location Request' Options.
- Enable Remote Location Request Service: Of course first of all you are able to turn this new feature completely ON and OFF. When the Checkbox is unchecked all incoming location requests will be ignored.
- Restrict access to PINs: You can restrict the location requests to only specific PINs. This means as long as a Location request does not come from a PIN that is in your list, the request will be ignored.
- To add a PIN to the list you need to press the 'Add Contact' Button. This will display all contacts of your BlackBerry Address Book that have a PIN assigned. If your list is empty please ensure that you will edit your BlackBerry Contacts so that people who should be able to request your location have a PIN-Info in our AddressBook.
- To remove a PIN you can select the PIN and press the 'DEL'-Key or select 'Delete PIN XXXXXXXX' from the Menu.
- Keep PIN-Messages: By default GPSLogger II auto deletes the incoming GPSLogger-PIN-Request and Response Message. Turn this Option OFF if you like to keep the requests and responses.
- Audio Alert if Location is requested: If you like to be alerted when somebody is requesting your location GPSLogger II can trigger an Audio Alert. Please note that you need to configure the Alert in the Global Device Alert Settings - It's listed as 'GPSLogger II - LocationRequest Alert'.
Once you have received a Remote Location request Reply the received location will be used as navigation point in GPSLogger II. So in the direction view you can see the the distance, ETA and all the other information that is useful when you like to get to that location.
Since my wife owns a BlackBerry as well since a couple of days, this function became very handy. E.g. when she is at the crowded beach with the kids and I want to find her when I want to join her after work. Just sending her a Request and few moments later I know where to go!
- GPL & GPP as ContentHandler: Finally you can open *.GPL (Paths) and *.GPP (Locations) files from anywhere (e.g. from a eMail attachment or from BBM™) directly with GPSLogger II.
I am surprised myself that it took me so long to finally add this to the application *shame*.

2011/06/21 - Release of GPSLogger II v2.2.0.8 (OS4.6+ only)
More handy features & fixes
What's new? / What's fixed?
- Always Center Location on Map: A new option in the Appearance & Startup Options allows you to keep your current location always centered on the center of the display. This feature can be used with the Map- and with the Path-View and can become quite handy when you are using the Outdoor-navigation function. Actually I have to admit that this feature was missing for quite a long time and finally it's there.
- Export Elevation in KML: a new switch in the Export Option allows you to include the elevation values in the KML in a format that allows to display the altitude of a location in GoogleEarth correctly. Ideal for logged flights.
- Unload Location: In addition to the unload Navigation Path you now can also unload the current Target Location (the location to which the device is currently pointing)
- PathDetails Popup (in the PathManager) will include various Date information (Start-Location Date, EndLocation Date & LogFile Date)
- Fix for Overall Time & Distance display when Minimum Speed Setting is configured and the current speed is below the minimum logging speed
- Fix for Elevation plausibility check

What's new?
Additional BBM-Features of GPSLogger II
(require BlackBerryMessenger 6.0 to be installed & configured)
- Invite one or more of your BBM-Contacts to follow you
The invited BBM-Contacts will receive constantly the host location.
Please note that the invited BBM-Contacts needs to have GPSLogger II
installed as well.
- Start or Join a public Host
Create a public
BBM-Channel that anybody (with BBM6.0) can join. GPSLogger II will
update your Personal Message with the link information and
additionally copy a join-link into the clipboard so that you can
paste it in a eMail, SMS, Twitter or Facebook. Users who would like
to join your public BBM-Channel can enter this link in GPSLogger in
order to follow you. As host you can specify an additional audio
signal (configurable in the BlackBerry Notification Settings) to get
notified when a client have joined your session.
- Client Options when joining a host
- Send your (client) location to the host
Once you are
connected to a host you can decide if the host should see your
client location as well. The host itself can select which client
(if multiple clients are connected) he would like to get displayed
additionally on his device. Also the host have the option to
instruct all clients that they should not submit their location at
all.
- See only the host.
By default you see your own
location and additionally the host as navigation path, so you are
able to follow the host. When you enable 'See only the host' then
GPSLogger II will use the remote host GPS-Signal instead the one of
your device. This allows you to do everything with the remote
signal (that you normally do with your own signal) including
logging.
- Send previously recorded Paths and Locations to your
BBM-Contacts
Since BBM6 allows you to share files with Friends
you can send previously recorded Path or Locations to your
BBM-Contacts. This functionality is available from the PathManager
and the LocationManager screens.
- Invite BBM-Contacts to Download GPSLogger II
- Join the GPSLogger II BlackBerryMessenger Group by scanning the QR-Code.

GPSLogger version have an additional Appearance option: "Use SVG position patch in Compass/Direction view". By default this option is enabled (this represents the original implementation of GPSLogger). If the text around the Compass is shifted (in
Compass- & Direction View) then please uncheck this new option since you got a new OS version installed where RIM have fixed the problem (and GPSLogger does not need to correct the wrong OS behavior any longer).
2009/09/30 - GPSLogger release of 1.7.6.0 public β
What's new?
- Lap Timer functionality - How to use the new feature:
- Start logging
- Once you are at your lap start finish line:
- open the menu and select "Set Start/Finish Line"

- New General Settings Option "Use 'brute force' LocationProvider recovery" (default OFF): GPSLogger can start an observer process for the LocationProvider (the "thing" that is generating GPS-Antenna-signal updates) - it can happen, that for
some reason GPSLoggers stops updating the location data. With this option you can enable a cyclic check if there is still a signal from the GPS-Antenna and if not the system tries a recovery.
Please note, that a change requires an application restart to take effect.
- Option "Check for updates": allows you to check your GPSLogger Version with the latest available at emacberry.com
What's fixed?
- Hopefully all font related problems are solved *sigh*

2009/08/28 - GPSLogger release of 1.7.1.0 fix of the fix (public β)
What's fixed?
- My apologize - never use WHILE statements when you are not sure, if the condition ever can become false - I have put that in my pipe and smoked it - the freezes had nothing to do with "older devices" or anything like that. The problem
occurred in unlucky combinations of default device font settings and the GPSLogger font selection.
I have corrected the code and thanks to the help of Joachim the problem is fixed now.
- Logger does not stop logging anymore when distance signal is used (was reported by users in the forum)
2009/08/24 - GPSLogger release of 1.7.0.1 public β fix
What's fixed?
- Some older devices seams to have problems with the intensive use of the fillPath function - this causing some devices to hang up in direction/compass view (or when using the "foolproof" pause option). Hopefully with the update to v1.7.0.1
this problem is fixed.

2009/08/01 - GPSLogger release of 1.5 public β
With this version of GPSLogger a complete new feature is introduced - outdoor navigation - since this can get quite complex and complicated I decided to release a public beta version in order to get as much feedback as possible. I hope to read your
valuable feedback in the emacberry.com forum.
What's new?
- Outdoor Navigation! - All Details about this new feature (and the corresponding new options) can be found at the Outdoor Navigation documentation.

- Reorganized main menu structure
- Additional menu entries (e.g. zoom in/out) for Storm Users (can be used instead of key shortcuts)

- Import of large (0.5 MiB+) KML & GPX files
2009/07/25 - GPSLogger release of 1.0
Over the past several months, I have considered significant user feedback as I added all of the essential features in order to make GPSLogger a usefull BlackBerry® offline GPS application. It is with these latest enhancements to the user
interface for the Options that I proudly release GPSLogger version 1.0 to the BlackBerry® community. Hopefully, the reviewers and the community at large will agree.
What's new?
- Options reorganized - on BlackBerry® devices it's quite common to separate the application options into various screens - this makes the options way more organized and easiert to understand.
- Distance Signal - new 'Special Options' to specify 'Vibrate Time' and 'Audio Volume'
- The specified 'Path directory' will be checked at each startup (if writable) - if not the Options dialog will be opened
- New General Option: 'Start in NightMode'
- New General Option: 'Confirm deletion of Paths and Points'
- New General Option: 'Allow start without GPS-Signal'
- New dialog to enter locations in the Degree, Minutes (decimal) format (like: 47° 56.112 N)
- Export (KML, GPX and CVS) of single Locations (from the Location Manager) - Key shortcut: [Z|X]
- GPX-Import will support files that contain location information in <rtept> elements
What's fixed?
- Input fields for new location coordinates only accept numeric values
- When in logging mode: a loaded location (via the LocationManager) will not be overwritten by the start location of your current path
- Fixed rounding problem for lon & lat values [if ending with 00 milli seconds]
2009/06/17 - GPSLogger update to 0.6.4.1 (HOTFIX)
What's new?
- Renamed Option 'Use absolute elevation values' in 'Use inverted elevation values' (and adjusted the internal implementation)
What's fixed?
- Logging will record altitude again
2009/06/16 - GPSLogger update to 0.6.4
What's new?
What's fixed?
- KML Export: Marking of Max Speed when at the same location then with Max/Min Elevation
- Added [BACKSPACE] as key shortcut for deleting a path or location in the corresponding manager screens
2009/06/12 - GPSLogger update to 0.6.3
What's new?
- If a location was loaded it will be always shown in the 'Path View'
- New dialog to enter locations in the Degree, Minutes, Seconds (Milliseconds) format
- Alignment of speed & elevation views based on relative (and not on absolute) time - this allows you to compare different recorded paths even if they are recorded at a different date.
- Website: Documentation started [read more]
- Website: New Sceenshots of GPSLogger in action [click here]
What's fixed?
- When using large fonts the path & location details could not be fully read - now you can scroll up/down
- Zoom works again when you are actually logging (or have loaded a path into the background) [was broken in 0.6.2]
- After deleting the last location or path the list will now be empty (refreshing issues solved)
- Multiple 'Background Path' should be rendered in different shades of grey
2009/06/09 - GPSLogger update to 0.6.2
What's new?
- "Distance Alerts/Signal" - Peep & vibrate after a user specified distance (in Meter or Feet) was traveled (specially useful for runners & biker)
E.g. specify (in the options) a distance of 1000m, then GPSLogger will give you a audio signal & your BlackBerry® Device will vibrate every km. So you get informed, that you have completed the user specified distance. Of course the signal
comes again after an additional km. So you have the signal at 1km, 2km, 3km... When you want the signal every mile, then please enter 5280 ft.
- In the KML export the "Max Elevation", "Min Elevation" and "Max Speed" Locations will be marked with a special symbol and an additional Text
- You can now load a Path into the background and can follow this background path without the requirement to start logging.
- New Option: Specify the "distance signal" (in Meter or Feet depending on your Units Setting) - Enter a '0' to disable this feature.
What's fixed?
- Export for of ultra long Path (39500+ Locations) supported (even if I do not recommend to log longer then 1 day in a single GPSLogger session)
Please note, that ultra long paths can't be send via eMail since it simply blows the device RAM! (A log with 39500+ Locations will generate a KML or GPX file of 18+ MB!)
2009/06/05 - GPSLogger update to 0.6.1
What's new?
- We have a new domain! 'www.emacberry.com'
That's also the reason, that you will get an Information when updating to the new Version [a module with the same name (GPSLogger) exist] - simply continue by pressing "OK".
- Progress bar when exporting paths
What's fixed?
- Path, Elevation & Speed Views will show always all named Locations
- KML-Import fixed (negative values)
- Possible HangUp fix when exporting long paths
2009/05/29 - GPSLogger update to 0.6
What's new?
- Specify your custom path names when start logging (can be enabled by 'Specify own Path names' in the options)
- Editing path names (via Path Manager)
There is a single issue with editing Path names: Renaming an Path created by any previous GPSLogger version (before 0.6) will cause in a duplication of the Path - one with the old name - one with the new name - simply delete the path with the
old name afterwards - there is no way around that - please excuse this inconvenience. Once the file is renamed for the first time, the overwriting when changing the name again will work smooth like silk.
- Create a new location (via Location Manager) - specify name, lat & lon value [the first step into a GeoCache app]
- Edit name of existing locations (via Location Manager)
- Direction View for OS4.2.1+ will show heading to 'N' (beside the direction to go)
- Direction View will show "estimated time of arrival" (depends from the current speed)
- Location details dialog will show the distance to your current location
- Import of KML Path (additional to GPX import)
- Import of a KML/GPX location [unzip your Google KMZ files (e.g. with BBFileScout) to a KML]
- New Shortcut [SHIFT]+[M]: Open Path Manager
- New Shortcut [SHIFT]+[L]: Open Location Manager
- New Icons in GoogleEarth (the KML-Export)
- New Shortcuts in Path Manager:
- [I|U]: (I)nformation/Details about path
- [E|R]: (E)dit Path name
- [Z|X]: E(x)port path
- [M]: Export as e(M)ail
- [DEL]: (DEL)ete path
- [L]: (L)oad path
- [A|S]: Load as (s)hadow path
- New Shortcuts in Location Manager:
- [I|U]: (I)nformation/Details about location
- [E|R]: (E)dit location name
- [B|N]: (N)ew location
- [DEL]: (DEL)ete location
